VUPEX, a.s. is a consulting and engineering company. The firm specializes in research, development and consultation in the field of energetics, natural sciences and technology.

The history of VUPEX, a.s. dates back to the year 1983 when “Fuel and Energy Complex Research Institute” – VUPEK, š. p. – was established in Prague to enhance the development in energetics. Its branch situated in Bratislava dealt exclusively with the topic of nuclear energy and hydro energy later as well. Before the Czech and Slovak Federative Republic was divided, the institute’s shares had been included in the first wave of voucher privatization, and VUPEX a.s. was established from the Bratislava branch of VUPEK, š.p. in Bratislava on April 29, 1992. . The central focus of the company’s activity had also been changed from nuclear energetics to hydro energetics, energy management and the operation of the power grid of the Slovak Republic.
The company has participated in conducting the research for public authorities as well as big power engineering organisations.
The most significant pieces of work concerned the development in power engineering in the Slovak Republic, the use of primary and secondary hydro energetic potential of the SR, the designing of new hydro and pumped-storage power plants, prognoses of electricity consumption in Slovakia and their coverage with production capacities, a biomass potential for power generation, the optimalization of the operation of distribution system and other matters of energetics.
